Whether we like it or not, our past – the good, the bad and the ugly – becomes the foundation for our future.
Some choose to live year after year in the bad or ugly and never move on from the hurts and pain they have experienced. Could it be they never learned there are action tools available to move forward – that reconstruction is possible?
It’s never too late to uncover and discover. Learn how long ago incidences impact life “today”. We can’t make changes until we become aware. The Color Outside The Lines healing journal is a great tool to help. What do you have to lose except some misery?
How many people in the course of a conversation say, “I’m so stupid” or when alone think derogatory comments about their skin, hair or body? Self-talk … negative self-talk … destructive to mind and body.
Would we stand in front of a friend and say the things we tell ourselves to them? Do we care about our friends more than we care about ourselves? Are we using our words and thoughts or are we repeating what we heard as a child? Ahhh … a great issue to journal about!
Affirmations are statements that help to overcome negative self-talk, negative words we repeat over and over and believe. There are many websites that list hundreds of different affirmations that relate to body and mind. The best affirmations are the ones we write for ourselves.
Louise Hay built a multi-million dollar business for years teaching people about positive self-talk through affirmations. The most difficult affirmation I hear from people is saying I Love You while looking in the mirror. At the start of a practice many can’t even say the words while others say it out loud and laugh at the ridiculousness of it.
It’s useful to work on one or two affirmations to start. And as strange as it might be, write the affirmations on sticky notes and post them in key areas; best is on the mirror in the bathroom and on the dashboard in the car. Affirmations are guaranteed to shift attitudes. If they don’t help after a few months of concentrated work, stop. What do you really have to lose by trying?
